Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Phone: Russian Debut on Dec. 5 for $600

It looks like things are truly unraveling for Nokia and their first full touchscreen phone, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

They had previously announced that it will only be available in 7 countries in 2008, but it seems that the limited list was further reduced to only 2 countries. The latest news indicated that it will debut in Russia on December 5th, but after that, only the Ukraine will follow next as far as 2008 is concerned. Kazakhstan will get it in January with other countries presumably to follow thereafter.

The other promise they failed to meet is the affordable price. The Russian 5800 XpressMusic phone is estimated to cost around 16,000 rubles or 457 Euros/$600 which is a whole lot more expensive than the €279 ($392) cost that was disclosed when it was unveiled.

I guess the affordable cost was just to good to be true. I’m just hoping that there aren’t anymore surprises down the road because, quite frankly, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone’s appeal is starting to fade quickly.
