Rumours, rumours, rumours. It’s what keeps the internet spinning (it is just a big earth object somewhere right?). The latest rumour to spread like an LA wild fire relates to the newly launched public beta of PlayStation Home. Unfortunately, the rumour has reached as far as the online tabloids, which is sure to cause unneeded panic amongst those who don’t know any better. Damn them non-geeks.

The rumour is that hackers can do the dirty with the Home servers, stealing peoples avatars is just the start of the problems. Tech-savvy people can supposedly utilise a bunch of web techniques to download, delete or replace files on the Home servers. This, if true, is a massive problem due to the potential spread of viruses and the like. I‘m not sure if there are any viruses that affect the PS3 yet, but you never know when one will come along.

This could be a huge setback for Sony who has delayed their free virtual community software repeatedly. Of course it still is classed as a Beta so some teething problems are to be expected but this could be too much.

Hopefully any problems will be fixed along with the connection issues in the patch set for release tomorrow.
