Trophy Sync Patch Coming – Perform Data Backup
There is a problem with the Trophy synchronisation on the PlayStation 3. It seems that if a user changes their PSN username or password it causes a recognition error with the Trophy sync. This causes Trophy data to become corrupt so data backup is essential.
Although Sony has come out confirming the problem and stating there will be a patch to resolve it, they have not given an expected date for said patch. If you have succumb to this Trophy destroying bug, there is a method that has supposedly had some success with users who have previously had their Trophy data corrupted.
- Delete game data (this is game installation data not your game saves)
- Perform a data backup using the PlayStation 3’s built-in backup facility
- Restore your system using the backup made in step 2
When you run the game and the Trophy details for that game are loaded your previously acquired Trophies should then reappear after a resynchronisation with Sony’s Trophy servers.
Even if you do not care about Trophies this bug is still something to be aware of as apparently some games become completely unplayable until the data is fixed. To avoid this problem happening, don’t change your PSN details (specifically username and password) until Sony releases the patch fixing the bug.
