HP 6735b Laptop

If you want to buy a laptop but you don’t have too much money to spend we recommend that you get the HP 6735b, a laptop which offers you a great performance at a price of $829. This laptop is ideal for small-business users.

<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

The HP 6735b laptop has a plastic case which is not very resistant but it has HP’s 3D DriveGuard protection for hard disk so you will not have big problems if you accidentally drop it. This laptop has only 5.9 pounds in weight and the weight is very important for a laptop. The case measures 14.0” x 10.5” x 1.3” and it is covered with a pleasant combination of black and gray.

The keyboard is comfortable and the keys offer you positive feedback when you type. The touch pad is very responsive and pleasant to touch but it is a little small. Like the other HP laptops, this model has a touch-sensitive strip for volume or for scrolling pages. The multimedia buttons are missing on this laptop and there is single button which you will find above the keyboard useful for sound mute.

If you are wondering about connectivity, this laptop has 4 USB ports, a VGA port, a modem port, a FireWire port, an Ethernet port, a Memory Card Reader, an Express Card slot, Wireless connection and the usual headphone and microphone jacks. The HP 6735b laptop has a 15.4 inch display with a native resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels but if you want a higher-resolution view you can choose a 1680 x 1050 pixels antiglare panel for only $25. You will be able to watch movies on a high quality even if your room is very dark or sunlit.

The HP 6735b laptop comes with a 2.0 GHz AMD Turion RM-70 processor and only 2 GB of RAM but that is more than sufficient for a business laptop. The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 graphics card is enough to play games like F.E.A.R or World of Warcraft without problems, but do not expect to be able to play these at the maximum details. The maximum storage capacity is 120 GB enough to store your favorite movies, pictures, music and other files. If you want more speed you can upgrade this system to a 2.2 GHz AMD Turion Dual Core ZM-82 processor and 8 GB of RAM but the standard configuration is enough for a business laptop.

If you need more free space you can buy another hard disk and replace it with the optical drive, but you will lose the DVD Burner which has an 8x speed burning. The fingerprint reader and the drive software encryption will keep your data secured and if you lose or forget your password, the HP SpareKey will help you solve the problem. The battery is a 6-cell one and it will keep your laptop up and running for more than 2 hours while you’re surfing the internet with the Wireless connection on. However, this laptop is proven to be a good laptop for people who are looking for a budget business laptop.

HP 6735s Laptop

February 10, 2010

(0) Comments

Another business mainstream notebook made by HP company is the HP 6735s laptop. This model has a synthetic material case which can be a problem because it is difficult to clean. The colors used on this laptop are black and semi-matte which offer an excellent business aspect. Other important aspects of this laptop are the weight and dimensions. With only 2.72 kg in weight and 3.2 x 35.8 x 26.7 cm dimensions, this laptop has the elegant and serious look of a business unit.

&lt-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center-&gt

The HP 6735s laptop is available with a standard AMD Turion X2 RM-72 CPU processor (2.1 GHz/ FSB 3600 MHz/ 2x 512 kb L2 cache/ 35 W TDP), but you can choose between other CPUs, such as: Athlon 64 X2, Sempron and Turion X2 Ultra. The integrated ATI HD3200 graphics card and the 2 GB of RAM memory give you the possibility to play some of the latest games without collapsing the system. If you want more than 2 GB of RAM you can upgrade the memory to a maximum 8 GB of RAM that because of the secondary RAM slot which is empty.

HP 6735s laptop comes with a standard 160 GB of free space but you can upgrade it to a maximum of 320 GB. Anyway, the 160 GB of free space should be enough to store your files if you use this laptop as a business machine. The Samsung optical drive is very responsive but you can choose the Lightscribe optical drive which offers you the possibility to make personalized labels for your CDs or DVDs.

The HP 6735s laptop has 15.4 inch display with a native resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. You can choose between a display with a matte surface or a mirror surface. Our recommendation is to choose the matte surface because it gives you the possibility to use the laptop in a bright room and even outdoors without problems. The keyboard is pleasant and offers a positive feedback which is a good aspect for a business laptop. The keys have the typical layout, average stroke distance and the standard dimensions. The touchpad is big and reacts very well when you touch it. If you regularly use a mouse you can deactivate the touchpad by pressing a single key.

The connectivity ports available on this laptop are satisfactory. The HP 6735s laptop has 4 USB ports, an Ethernet port, an analogue VGA port, a Multimedia Card Reader, a 56k modem, an Express Card slot, Kensington Lock and headphone and microphone jacks. With the Wireless, Bluetooth connection and the VGA webcam you can stay in touch with your friends all the time.

But if you are not satisfied by these for some extra money you can have a FireWire port, UMTS and an eSATA port. The 8-cell battery will keep your laptop up and running for more than 3 hours which is very good for a business laptop. The price is not exaggerated as business laptops are known for being somewhat expensive. $1,038 may seem like a lot of money but if you compare the price with the performances you will see that you have made a good deal by buying this laptop.

Alienware M9700

February 10, 2010

(0) Comments

The Alienware Company is recognized by its gaming laptops and desktops PCs. The Alienware 򾖴 is another serious gaming laptop with great performance and solid built in quality. This model is the first of its kind which uses the NVIDIA SLI technology. Using two GeForce 7900GS graphics cards and an AMD Turio⬸ 2.40 GHz processor you can use this laptop to play any game you want without problems.

<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

The 1 GB of DD𔇠 RAM memory and the two hard drives with a total capacity of 200 GB allow you to run any application without any lag and store your files in a safe place. With such a performance you will be envied by the greatest gamers in the world.

The Alienware M9700 has a 17 inch Wide Screen WUXGA display with a native resolution of 1920 x 1200 which offers clear and quality images. Even if the display is a quite glossy the ClearView technology helps you get the best quality for the on-screen images and movies even if you plan to use this laptop into a powerfully lit room. Like the other Alienware laptops, this hosts many connection possibilities.

It has an Integrated Gigabit Ethernet port, an integrated 56K modem port, 4 USB ports, a 4-in-1 Media Card Reader, a VGA port, an S-Video port, a WireFire, a Realtek 802.11 g/s Wireless adaptor, Bluetooth adaptor, an Express Card Slot, a S/PDIF output, 10/100/1000 LAN port, a DVI port, a PCMCIA slot and the indispensable headphone and microphone jacks.

The case is made of synthetic material with a pleasant combination of gray and glossy black. The lid is an artwork just like the other lids on other Alienware laptop models. The alien head which is a symbol for this company and the engraved lines are present on the lid. The Alienware 򾖴 keyboard is a full-size one and it is very easy to use when you play games. The keys are made of plastic material and offer a positive feedback when you press them.

The touchpad is quite small but this is not a problem because probably you will use a mouse with such a gaming laptop. Anyway, the touchpad is very responsive and it will react to every touch no matter how weak it is. But as I said, we recommend using a mouse for this laptop because you will be more satisfied and you will get better response (not to mention better shooting accuracy). If you want a good mouse, we recommend you to buy The Logitech G5 Laser Gaming Mouse for only $66.

The Alienware M9700 comes with an optical DVD-RW drive and the LightScribe feature so you can make personalized labels for your CDs of DVDs. The internal speakers and subwoofer offer an amazing sound with enough bass so you don’t need to attach other external stereo speakers. The 5.1 audio support is a rare feature for a laptop as it offers the sound quality to make any laptop owner proud.

The 12-cell Lithium-Ion battery will keep this laptop up for 1hr – 1hr 30min under test conditions. That is pretty much for a gaming laptop with these performances. The total weight is 11 pounds so if you want to carry this laptop with you all the time you will get tired very quickly. But since we are talking about a gaming laptop and a desktop replacement at the same time, this aspect may not matter that much. This laptop which has this specific configuration costs $3,700 but if you don’t want to spend such a lot of money you can choose the standard configuration which costs $1,700 but the performance will not be the same.

HP Mini 2140 Notebook

February 10, 2010

(0) Comments

The HP Mini 2140 notebook is a new mini notebook from HP which is a replacement and an update for the original HP 2133 Mini-Note. The HP Mini 2140 notebook is a business class notebook and it comes with a magnesium and aluminum alloy case.

<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

The HP Mini 2140 notebook has a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom 𓆾 processor, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM memory and a 160 GB hard drive. This combination of power and storage capacity makes this notebook a real competitor for many other notebooks from the same category. The 10.1 inch display with a native resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels allows you to watch movies without connecting an external monitor to it.

The glossy and bright display is very attractive but this can be a problem because it reflects the object in front of it when you use it outdoors or into a powerfully lit room. And just like other glossy surfaces, this is a magnet for fingerprints and dust so you must clean it every time you use it.

The keyboard on the HP Mini 2140 notebook is full-sized with flat and large keys so you can type on them without problems. Like the other models of HP notebooks, the keys offer a positive feedback. There can be only one problem. On the keyboard you will see only one “Fn” taste which is very important for a laptop. But thanks to the space between keys you can easy type on the correct keys.

The touchpad is quite small but it is very sensitive and will respond even to the weakest touch. The smooth surface of the touchpad offers a pleasant sensation when you touch it. There is but one single problem: it doesn’t support multi-touch. If you want to scroll a page you have a strip on the right side of the touchpad.

The integrated speakers on the HP Mini 2140 notebook are loud and clear so you don’t need to plug in an external speakers set. The integrated microphone is very receptive and the integrated 1.2 Megapixels webcam allows you to make video calls and stay in touch with your friends, even to take photos or record clips. The 3-cell battery will keep this notebook up for 2 hours and 12 minutes on stressful test conditions. The battery performance is not that bad but for an ultraportable we expected to see more.

If you are concerned with connectivity, this model comes with only 2 USB ports, a VGA out port, an Ethernet port, a 56k modem port, a Bluetooth adaptor and the usual headphones and microphone jacks – quite impressive considering the size of the unit. The Wireless and the Bluetooth adaptors will help you stay in touch with your friends anywhere you are.

The HP Mini 2140 notebook comes with 60 days trial of Microsoft Office and McAfee Total Protection pre-installed. The Desktop zoom feature is very useful on this kind of notebook because it helps you adjust the icons and font sizes so you can read without problems. The price of this notebook is $499. Even if the HP Mini 2140 isn’t the cheapest notebook, we recommend you buy this model because it is definitely worth the money.

Alienware Area-51 M7700 Laptop

February 10, 2010

(0) Comments

The Alienware Area-51 m7700 laptop is one of the best gaming laptop on the market at this time. Company officials were able to gather a lot of functionality into a compact and efficient form. The Alienware Area-51 m7700 comes with a 3.6 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM and a pair of hard disks with the total capacity of 120 GB of free memory.

&lt-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center-&gt

With such power you will be able to play your favorite games and to do many other operations at the same time. When it comes to the video card we are proud to announce you that this Alienware model is equipped with the nVidia GeForce GO 6800 with 256MB memory, one of the most powerful graphics card. With this graphics card you will be able to play most demanding games without any problems at the decent resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels.

This model has a standard TFT 17 inch display with a native resolution of 1440 x 900, but if you want some extra desktop space you can pay $200 extra for a display with a resolution of 1680 x 1050.

The keyboard includes a numerical keypad and many multimedia buttons that allow you to have instant access to different applications like Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player and it even allows you to check your mailbox. Typing on the keyboard is very pleasant because the keys are not piled and they offer a very good feedback, which is very important for a fast writer. Below the keyboard you will find the touchpad which is very responsive but which is a little large for a gaming laptop. We recommend you keep a mouse plugged in all the time.

The Alienware Area-51 m7700 is equipped with a DVD writer which allows you to burn your DVDs without problems, but if you want more than that, below this drive you can find another bay which allows you to install a second optical drive. On the front side, you will find a set of multimedia control buttons which allow you to listen to your favorite music. The LED display shows the elapsed time of the song. The integrated stereo speakers and the subwoofer produce a very good sound so you will don’t need an external set of speakers.

When it comes to connections the Alienware Area-51 􋿤 is equipped with 4 USB ports, a S-Video port, an Ethernet port, a modem socket, a single Type II PC Card slot, a 7-in-1 Memory Card Reader, 2 x 4-pin FireWire ports, a PS/2 port, a DVI port, some parallel and serial ports plus the indispensable headphones, line-in, line-out and microphone jacks. And that not’s all. The Bluetooth and the 802.11b/g Wireless will keep you in touch wherever you are.

However, we are disappointed when it comes to weight and battery life. The total weight of this laptop is 14.8 pounds (12.4 pounds is the weight of the laptop and 2.4 pounds is the weight of the power adapter) which is too much for a portable laptop. The battery life is very short, just 1 hour and 10 minutes under stressful test conditions and in standby only 2 hours and 50 minutes. But if you want a very good gaming laptop you will not be disappointed. The only one thing which is a quite exaggerated is the price. If you want to buy an Alienware Area-51 m7700 you will need to pay $3214, but you have to remember, performance costs.

HP Pavilion Laptop DV7-1150us

February 7, 2010

(0) Comments

The HP Pavilion laptop DV7-1150us is a great entertainment laptop. And I am saying this because the whole dv7 series is known for their beautiful display, great design and built in quality and the Blu-ray optical drive. Along with the Blu-ray drive comes the HDMI port which is one of the best things you can combine in order to watch high definition DVD movies on an external monitor.

<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

The 17 inch display of the HP Pavilion laptop DV7-1150us is a real beauty which should be found on every true multimedia laptop. HP has used the widescreen BrightView Infinity technology. This means that the display is glossy making the colors sharper and more vibrating which contributes to a overall improved image quality. The screen has a native resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels which is more than enough considering the size of the display.

The 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 processor is combined with 4 GB of DDR2 RAM which means there is enough speed and also enough power to run multiple applications at the same time. The 320 GB capacity of the hard disk should be enough storage space for you to store your favorite music, movies and other useful files. The graphics card does not live up to the power that the rest of components have.

The video card on this laptop is the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 MHD which can use a maximum of 1759 MB of shared video memory. The dual-layer DVD Burner uses the LightScribe technology so you can personalize your DVD’s by creating your very own labels. If you want to customize your laptop on the HP official website, there is a Blue-Ray optical drive available for the Pavilion dv7 series. It would be a real shame if people did not choose this optical drive which allows you to watch HD movies and really take advantage of the 17 inch display.

Above the keyboard you can find the Altec Lansing speakers which represent HP’s favorite choice when it comes to choosing the sound provider for the Pavilion line. The speakers are far better than the regular speakers that you find on a 15.4 inch laptop. However, nothing can really compare to a good set of external speakers as the quality of the sound is taken one step further. It feels very pleasant to use the dv7 keyboard and your fingers seem to take a natural course when you are typing.

In fact, the keys are so pleasant to touch that you sometimes feel like the fingers are typing by themselves. Above the keyboard you will also find a set of touch sensitive multimedia control buttons which are backed up by blue lights. Most people are extremely happy with the QuickPLay button which gives you instant access to movie applications, music and even photos. Even if this laptop is cheap people are always looking for different methods to save some money. If you feel that you really want to own the HP Pavilion laptop DV7-1150us but you don’t want to pay the entire price of a new unit, you can choose a refurbished model for as low as $529.

Buy Compaq 15.6 Laptop

February 4, 2010

(0) Comments

If you are on the market looking for an average laptop and you are on a budget, you should consider to buy a Compaq 15.6 laptop. And when I say 15.6 I mean it has a 15.6 inch screen. For about $500, you can own the Compaq Presario CQ-60-220us. It is very cheap and therefore affordable by most people.If you want to buy a Compaq 15.6 laptop the first thing you should look at are the specs.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
This specific Compaq model is powered by an Intel Pentium Dual Core 󍺈 processor and 2 GB of RAM. The capacity of the hard drive is 250 GB and the graphics card is the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M. It’s really one of the best budget laptop out there and it has some nice features even is it may look you get nothing at this low price. The combination of RAM and processor don’t exactly reflect laptop power. Multiple tasking is possible but make sure you don’t overreact as the laptop cannot handle too much pressure.

The 250 GB of disk space should prove to be enough for you to store all your files and this Compaq can be used as your primary computer if you have the necessary patience to wait until it gets everything done. If we compare this Compaq to other budget laptop which have similar pricing, you will find that there are better laptops out there. One nice feature is the integrated dual layer DVD burner which helps you make backup copies of your files and store them in a safe place. It uses the LightScribe technology so you can make your own labels for proper identification of the information written on CDs and DVDs.

The number of ports and connection is way too low in my opinion, even for a budget laptop. The truth is that 15.6 inch laptop should not be poor in the number of connections as they are thick enough to support many ports on all four sides. It has 3 USB ports but unfortunately there is no HDMI port and no Express Card slot. The fact that it is affordable does not compensate for the lack of connectivity options. If you buy the refurbished model you can save some extra money as it costs only $400 on www.amazon.com. The good news is that you can upgrade the 2 GB of RAM to a maximum 4 GB. The sad news is that the RAM is pretty much everything you can upgrade. The unit will come with the 32 bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium and a lot of preinstalled software which some people may find pretty useless.

Since it weighs about 3 pounds, it’s not that heavy to be heavy carried around. The dimensions are 14.88” x 9.9” x 1.72”. This is about everything we can tell you about this Compaq laptop and if you really want our personal opinion, it is not worth the money. Compaq laptops have become the least favorite notebooks in the past few years.

HP N270 10 Inch Laptop

February 4, 2010

(0) Comments

When you hear somebody talking about the HP N270 10 inch laptop they are referring to the HP Mini 1000, the smallest and most portable laptop that HP has ever manufactures. The N270 is in fact the Intel Atom processor that comes in the unit of this mini laptop. The starting price for this unit is $399 but if you want to add some extra feature you will end up paying about $550 for the HP N270 10 inch laptop.
&lt-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center-&gt
Like I said, the processor is a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Ẍ that comes with 1 GB of RAM. The graphics card is the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 and the storage capacity of the hard drive is 60 GB. The laptop will come with the SP2 Windows XP Home Edition. It weighs 1.4 kg so portability is the main positive aspect of the HP Mini. This is why netbooks are designed: so you can have an ultra portable laptop which will help you get though the basic computing need like surfing the internet, listening to music or working on some documents. Since the laptop is small and thin, there is some flex noticed if you apply pressure when typing on its keyboard. There is no aluminum chassis or magnesium alloy so this laptop is not rugged and it will not resist too many shocks.

The good aspect of this HP Mini 1000 is that the keyboard is almost the full size of a regular laptop keyboard. It’s usually difficult to get used to super small keys as people that type fast make a lot of errors. For instance I have gotten used to typing without looking at my keyboard because I know exactly where my fingers have to be to press the right keys. If someone were to give a smaller keyboard, I would not be typing so accurately anymore. When it comes to the ports and features of such a small laptop you cannot expect to get too much benefit. The ports are usually sacrificed to make a thinner laptop. This HP Mini 100 comes with 2 USB ports, one SD card reader, one eSATA port, an Ethernet port, an option for an integrated Bluetooth and the regular headphones out and microphone in jacks. As you can see, you have no port for attaching an external monitor.

The 10.2 inch display has a native resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels and since it is so small, you are going to have to scroll a lot in order to read big documents or web pages. Netbooks are supposed to be well known for good battery life as they are highly ultraportable and you expect them to last long when you’re away from a power outlet. The 3 cell battery of this mini laptop is not that encouraging. If you plan to watch a video using DVD playback, the laptop will not stay on for more than 2 hours and 45 minutes. This means that you get a bit more than 3 hours on casual use.

HP DV7t Laptop Info

February 4, 2010

(0) Comments

In this article, we are going to show some HP dv7t laptop info. This particular laptop models is part of the dv7 Pavilion series of multimedia laptops. The unit is customizable but if you want some of the best specs inside your laptop, you will have to pay about $1900.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
The processor is the 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 with 3 GB of RAM which can be upgraded to a maximum 4 GB. The capacity of the hard drive is 400 GB which is more than enough storage space and it allows you to use this laptop as your primary computer. The graphics card in an nVidia GeForce 9600M GT with 512 MB of video memory. There is also an integrated Bluetooth device and the operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium. In terms of ports and connections I can tell you that this laptop has 3 USB ports, one Ethernet port, one HDMI out, one infrared port, one 5-in-1 media card reader, one expansion port and the regular headphones out and microphone in jacks.

If the past designs of the Pavilion series used the glossy black chassis and the white circle imprint finish, the design of this Pavilion uses a grid pattern with the HP white logo in the upper left corner which glows whenever the laptop is turned on. The surface of this laptop is still a fingerprint magnet which has to be constantly cleaned up. Above the keyboard there is a set of multimedia control buttons which help you adjust the sound volume and control DVD playback. The keyboard is smooth and pleasant to type on. If you don’t have dry fingers, the keys may feel a little slippery but they offer positive feedback when you type. The 17 inch display is a beauty. It has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050 pixels and it makes an excellent desktop replacement. The levels of brightness and contrast are acceptable and the horizontal viewing angles are also pretty good. The sound is quality is very good maybe because the laptop has an integrated subwoofer.

Another great feature is the integrated TV tuner. Now you use the laptop as a computer and a small TV for one of your rooms as well. There is even an included remote control so you can lie on the sofa and watch TV of a DVD movie. You can watch a movie from all across the room and the speakers sound pretty good. I think this is the most important HP dv7t laptop info that you should know. For those of you that are particularly interested in the battery performance, I have some interesting news to give you. The standard battery is an 8 cell which can provide up to 3 hours and 15 minutes while listening to music, surfing the internet with the wireless connection enabled and while doing some word processing. You have to admit, this is some amazing performance for a laptop as huge as the HP Pavilion dv7t.

HP Laptop With Stylus

When you have a HP laptop with stylus pen, this one is generally used on the display which can also act as a touch screen. The stylus pen is a kind of replacement for your finger and it prevent leaving any fingerprints that can ruin the clean aspect of the notebook. An example of HP laptop with stylus is the t×2500z tablet PC. It is one of the best tablet PCs that money can buy and it has the specs to make people envy you for owning this beauty.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->
It runs on a 2.4 GHZ AMD X2 ZM-86 processor which is combines with 3 GB of RAM. The graphics card is the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 and the hard drive has a 160 GB storage capacity. The 12.1 inch display can be used as a regular laptop screen and as a touch screen which responds to the commands given by your fingers or the included stylus pen. It has an integrated webcam and other cool features like a fingerprint reader and a mini remote control. It has 3 USB ports, a multi format digital media card reader, an Express Card slot, an Expansion port, one VGA out, one S-Video port, an Ethernet port and 2 headphones and one microphone jacks.

Since the touch screen is the central focus point of the Pavilion t×2500z, let’s talk about the tablet features of this laptop. There are some cool things to be said about the functionality of the stylus pen. First I have to say that it acts like a pencil with an eraser at the other end. Whenever you write something on the screen and make a mistake, you can flip over the pen and erase the errors just like that. The display will detect the pen even if it is one inch away from the screen and this is great because your hand does not get in your way when you’re writing. When you switch the laptop to table mode, you may think that you have a problem since you lose control of the keyboard. Along the screen bezel you have buttons which can be used to control the multimedia features like listening to music watching movies and looking through pictures.

The screen bezel also hosts a webcam, great for video chatting using internet chat programs. Even if it’s sometimes easier to use your fingers, I would go with the stylus pen. First of all, it prevents the glossy display from getting all dirty and covered in fingerprints. Second, it is so easy to use it, it feel just like you were writing something down on a normal sheet of paper. First I thought that this is laptop for the business segment of clients. Then I thought it could be very useful for students who want to take notes in class. Finally, when I heard you could get this laptop for about $1000, I think most people can afford it. The battery of this portable unit can last about 3 hours when the windows power management profile is set to “balance mode” and the wireless card is enabled. I love it! Not only is it useful, but it is also good looking and also quite affordable if you ask me.

Laptop Review

February 4, 2010

(0) Comments

When it comes to laptop reviews, we seem to have given more attention to certain manufactures like Dell or HP because their models are selling better than anything else. This is why this laptop review is going to be about something else: the MSI GT627.
<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->
We have found that this particular model actually meets the requirement of a gaming laptop, without being as expensive as a gaming laptop is most of the time. This 15 inch gaming laptop has amazed us not because of the specs, but because of its low price. You would normally expect to pay at least $2500 for a decent gaming laptop but that’s not the case here. This unit can be bought for $1150 and you the 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 combined with 4 GB of RAM (if I’m not mistaking, we have come across a lot of gaming units which only has 2 GB of RAM and you the more RAM your laptop has, the better). The graphics card is an nVidia GeForce 9800M GS with 1 GB of DD̷ of video memory (we’re talking about some quality video gaming here). The capacity of the hard disk can support a maximum of 320 GB. As for the design, this laptop has the typical gaming combination of black and red.

The brushed metal finish makes it look really elegant and yet somehow solid. Since it weighs 5.6 lbs it has the advantage of being more portable than the other 11 lbs gaming laptop we have reviewed so far. This means that you could also take this laptop to the office or at class without breaking your back. The lid of this laptop is not that easy to scratch and since it does not have a glossy finish, fingerprints won’t be a problem either. The sad news is that once you buy this laptop, you have to wait 1 year until you can do any kind of upgrades or else you will void the warranty.

As for the display, the glossiness gives the color excellent sharpness and great contrast. Viewing angles are not excellent but for a gaming laptop, what are the chances of friends wanting to gather around and watch you shoot zombies? The disadvantage is that regular gaming laptops usually have 17 inch screens which mean a better resolution. We were surprised to find a numerical pad in a 15 inch laptop but we are never upset of getting extra keys on the keyboard. There was some flex noticed in the keyboard area. Apparently the keys have a slight wobble and a moderate throw when you’re typing and these things are uncomfortable for some people. The touchpad is great on the other hand and it doesn’t show any signs of lag. The left and right mouse buttons are aluminum brushed but gaming laptop still require an external mouse unless you want to tie up your arm in a knot when you’re using both the keyboard and touchpad during game play.

Regular daily computing activities are no problem for the MSI GT627 because the processor and the RAM work great together and give us both speed and the ability to run multiple applications simultaneously. Ports and connections are important no matter what the size of the laptop is. It’s nice to see that this laptop comes with 3 USB ports (one of which is an eSATA + USB combo port), one HDMI port, one VGA port, a TV antenna, an Ethernet port, one Express Card slot, a Kensington lock slot, a SDHC multi card reader and the regular headphone and microphone ports. In general, the speakers of a gaming laptop should be above average. They are usually better than the speakers and regular laptop. Unfortunately, this is not the case of this MSI. They are much weaker than the speakers on regular 15 inch laptops. The lack of bass is highly noticeable so when you’re playing games, get yourself some decent headphones or maybe regular laptop speakers which are in any case better than the integrated ones. The nVidia GeForce 9800M GS generates a lot of heat since it’s very powerful. It’s not recommended you start playing games with this laptop in your lap as the temperature may be a little too much for your legs to support. For laptops which have overheating issues, it is recommended you get a special laptop cooling pad if you want to be able to use this unit for a long time. The noise coming out from this laptop is normal. If you are in a quiet room, you will be able to hear the cooler of the laptop but with some background noise, it’s barely noticeable.

When it comes to battery life, this laptop can handle things better than bigger and heavier gaming laptop but the number are nothing to be amazed about. If the display brightness is set to 70% and the power management profile of the operating system is set to “balanced mode” with the wireless card active, you will get about 2 hours and 35 minutes of battery life. Like I said, nothing special to talk about here. If you were planning to take this laptop to class and take notes, it won’t make it throughout a whole day. This laptop is not a bad choice if you are on a budget but still looking for a nice gaming laptop. It can live up to the expectation you have from the bigger 17 inch gaming laptops and the price is at least reasonable.

Gaming performance may squeak here and there but there are only a few laptops that show 100% capability of running any game. The truth is you won’t be able to find many good gaming laptop for $1150 for unless you are planning to save some money and buy an Alienware laptop, go out and get yourself this MSI. Even if the keyboard may be strange to type on, whenever you switch from one laptop to another, you always need some time to adjust to the new keyboard.

Lenovo Laptop

February 4, 2010

(0) Comments

When it comes to Lenovo laptops, we have a lot to discuss about their functionality as business laptops. In August 2009, Lenovo has introduces us to a new model: the IdeaPad U450p.
<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->
This 14 inch Lenovo laptop fits perfectly into the thin and light category with its 13.3″ x 9.3″ x 0.9-1.1″ dimensions and 4.6 lbs of weight. The specs are the following: it has a 1.3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 320 GB of hard drive space and the ATI Radeon HD 4330 graphics card with 512 MB of dedicated video memory. One things we absolutely love about the design of this notebook is the checkerboard pattern which is visible both on the lid of the laptop as well as on the area surrounding the keyboard. After using this laptop for a while, some people may become annoyed with this pattern but you have to admit that it looks really nice. On the lid there is a plastic Lenovo logo in the top left corner. The bezel which surrounds the lid is really smooth and these small details makes a laptop look very special. There is no flex in the palm rest area but there is some flex in the screen If you try to twist it. Hopefully, you won’t do that. The materials are not the most high quality ones that Lenovo could have used but that does not make the IdeaPad U450p a bad laptop. The laptop has just the perfect size to be carried around whether you’re just taking it to school, office or at the coffee shop or prefer a laptop for travelling. If you plan on using this laptop as a desktop replacement, you could try choosing a laptop which has a bigger screen as they are always more comfortable to work it at home.

The screen has a 1366 x 768 resolution. Above the display you have a 1.3 mega pixel webcam which will surely prove itself useful for those that travel a lot and want to keep in touch with the people back home via video conferences. The colors are sharp and the brightness levels are acceptable for a 14 inch laptop. Both the horizontal and the vertical viewing angles are ok. If you plan on watching movies with this laptop, you will find the image of nice quality so this IdeaPad can also make a nice multimedia notebook. The speakers are located above the keyboard and the speaker quality is decent. They are above average if we compare them to other 14 inch laptops but if you turn up the volume too much, the quality decreases. You have special volume buttons located on the right side of the keyboard. If you are in need of better sound quality, external speaker are recommended.

That does not mean you can’t enjoy listening to your favorite music on this laptop. As far as the keyboard goes, we have some nice words to say. The spacing plus the size of the keys are ok for a small laptop and there is no flex here unless you apply heavy pressure. Hopefully you won’t hit those keys as hard as you can. As expected, there is no special numerical pad and there is a big chance we’ll never find one on a 14 inch laptop (unless a manufacturer is crazy enough to shrink the keys to a really tiny size to fit in a numerical pad). The touchpad has a regular size and the left and right mouse buttons are made of plastic and metal. On the right side of the touchpad, there are some orange dots which indicate that is the scrolling area.

In total, this laptop has 3 USB ports, one Ethernet port, one VGA port, one HDMI port, a 4-in-1 media card reader, a security lock slot, and the headphones out and microphone in jacks. This combination of ports is actually quite nice there is no FireWire port and no S-Video port but sacrifices have to be made when you develop thin and light 14 inch laptops. The beauty of this laptop is that it does not get loud and it does not get hot. Every part inside this laptop manages to stay pretty silent while doing its job. The touchpad is the area that gets hot but it’s nothing to be worried about. Battery life is important for small laptops as they are bough for portability reasons. This Lenovo managed to work for 4 hours when surfing the internet with both the Bluetooth and the wireless card turned on while playing some videos. This is quite ok, considering that if you don’t play videos you could gain some more time. With this laptop you get the chance to test the new Windows 7 Home Premium operating system which operates on 64 bits and it runs really smooth. You will probably get a lot of preinstalled software which you will find useless but it’s nothing that a good disk clean up can’t handle.

This laptop is perfectly capable of handling the regular daily computing tasks at an acceptable speed. This is not a laptop for gamers even if the video card is pretty good. no one would want to play top of the line games on 14 inch laptops anyway. It does support some mainstream games however, so if you are into playing some Monopoly, that’s ok. Not only is this laptop practical but it also looks good because of that stylish pattern. It has an optical drive and optical drives sometimes lack from smaller laptops. You may not like that it comes with tons of preinstalled software and other people will not enjoy the plastic overall feel of the laptop.

Battery life could have been better but it’s still satisfying. It is a nice Lenovo laptop even if we are used to seeing big models with dual screen which are too big to be taken off the desk. It’s nice change in Lenovo customer orientation. Does it bother you that it doesn’t have a fingerprint reader?

HP Laptop DV4T

February 4, 2010

The HP laptop dv4t is part of the Pavilion series, one of the best sellers from HP. The starting price is $600, so you can also get your hands on this laptop which has some pretty nice specs if you’re looking for a cheap and nice multimedia laptop. You can get a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 processor and 4 GB of RAM. The Toshiba hard drive provides us with 320 GB of free space for storage purposed and as far as the graphics card goes, we are dealing with the nVidia GeForce 9200M GS with 256 MB of dedicated video memory.

<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->

With 5 lbs of weight and 13.15″ x 9.45″ x 1.34″ dimensions, the HP laptop dv4t has a design which makes it elegant. Some people may think it’s too shiny and too glossy but that is the touch that makes it look so elegant. The glossy black lid has the HP logo imprinted in white on it. The durable plastic of the chassis makes this laptop very solid and the painted surfaces are able to handle minor scratches even they are a bit of a fingerprint magnet. The plastic of the palm rests is rigid but it will flex if you apply heavy pressure. However, there are signs that you can transport this laptop in your backpack without worrying too much. The glossy display makes the color really sharp and vibrant. It has a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. The brightness levels are ok so they can cover most light situations. The contrast is a little weird ass it seems a bit washed out but other than that, images are ok. the horizontal viewing angles are also good, as they should be on a multimedia laptop which you will probably use to watch a good movie with a couple of friends.

And here comes one of the greatest features of this laptop: the Blu-ray drive. This means that you can now enjoy HD movies of cinema quality right at home on your laptop. The difference is better noticed if you had a higher monitor resolution. The keyboard is comfortable to use and the spacing is also great. This whole keyboard area as well as the keys are silver and it really makes a beautiful and elegant contrast with the glossy black which is used on the lid.

The touchpad shows signs of lag but the problem is minor. Otherwise, it is very responsive. It is glossy and it’s really attracts fingerprints and finger oil so it would be nice if you cleaned it from time to time using rubbing alcohol. The left and right mouse buttons are easy to click using your thumb and you can hear a click. Above the keyboard there is a set of touch sensitive multimedia control button which come really in handy for the exact same purpose, especially when you’re watching movies and clips. Here you will also find a button to switch the wireless on and off.

As for the integrated speakers, well, HP could have done much better. The sound coming out of them cannot be considered loud even if the volume is turned to maximum. There is no bass and that could bother you when you’re watching movies. We recommend some external speakers for better sound quality. Ports and connections are also important when we are dealing with a multimedia notebook. This laptop has 3 USB ports, an eSATA and USB combo port, an Express Card slot, an Expansion port 3 (which is used for connecting a docking station), an Ethernet port, a VGA port, a HDMI port, a Kensington lock slot, a 5-in-1 media card reader, 2 audio ports and one microphone jack.

There is nothing special to write about as far as heat and noise goes. The fan keeps the laptop under normal temperature even if the area of the palm rests gets a little hot. The fan can be pretty loud compared to other similar multimedia notebooks and if you are used to working in a very quiet environment, this noise can become annoying.

As for the battery life, we can say that the 6 cell battery manages to provide 3 hours and 25 minutes of laptop functionality if the screen brightness is set to medium level and the wireless card is enabled. There is also a 12 cell battery available from HP but we couldn’t exactly tell you what is the average laptop usage with this battery. Note that if you want to carry this laptop around and you choose the 12 cell battery, it will increase the overall weight of the laptop. To fully benefit from watching movies using the Blu-ray optical drive, it’s nice if you could attach an external monitor with the help of the HDMI port. Like I said, a higher resolution could improve the quality of the images so you can feel that you’re watching a high definition video. There is a “SmartBay” removable storage drive which is more useful if you want to increase the amount of storage space.

The docking station connection can prove to be really useful if you need a portable laptop which you can carry here and there but you still have to attach a lot of devices to the unit. A docking station will allow you to increase the functionality of the laptop without having to mess around with cables all day long as you only have to attach and disconnect one single cable to your laptop. This laptop can be configured to better meet your needs if you go to the HP official website. Remember that the more features you choose for your laptop, the more expensive the unit will become.

Overall, it offers good performance even if you choose features for a cheaper notebook. It’s safe to say that HP has much better Pavilion models for those that are looking to benefit from a high quality multimedia notebook. It’s elegant and useful so you can use it at home, at school and at the coffee shop and the nice design won’t embarrass you if you use it at the office as well.

Sony Laptop Reviews

February 4, 2010

(0) Comments

Sony laptop reviews are somewhat difficult to write because we can’t all be objective. If you own a Sony laptop you will always be tempted to say it’s the best choice ever firstly because you pay a lot of money for specs which are not top of the line (and you’ll never admit you made a bad choice) and secondly because it’s a Sony and Sony is the brand or “cool” people.
&lt-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center-&gt
For this Sony laptop review, we have chosen a $2150 unit: the VAIO FW (vgn-fw198u to be more exact). It has a 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor 󏗸, 4 GB of RAM (of which only 3 are usable), 320 GB of storage space and the ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 graphics card with 256 MB of video memory. The design of the notebook is really nice. It’s all silver and shiny it almost looks like a diamond. The built in quality is very nice and the chassis is rigid and sturdy. The screen is very thin and it makes movie watching quite comfortable and pleasant. The colors are rich and sharp even if the contrast is a bit washed out. Both the horizontal and vertical viewing angles are nice. The keyboard seems a bit too “Apple Mac Book” and it seems like it’s been copied. But apparently Sony was the first manufacturer to develop this type of keyboard, with significant spacing between the keys.

It takes some time to adjust to this type of keyboard with flat keys and spaces but once you do get past the differences you are going to love typing on this Sony. The touchpad is larger than you could imagine which makes wide motion comfortable. The left and right mouse buttons are leveled with the rest of the palm rest area just like in the case of most Toshiba Satellite laptops.

When it comes to the ports and features of this laptop, we have a total of 3 USB ports, one Express Card slot, one memory stick reader, one Ethernet port, one HDMI port, one VGA port, one SD card reader, a FireWire port and the headphone and microphone jacks. The speakers of this laptop are weaker than we all expected. If you turn up the volume to a maximum level, it is still not enough to fully enjoy a game or watch a good movie. This can be a huge disappointment for a multimedia notebook if you consider there are cheaper multimedia laptops which have better sound qualities.

External speakers are recommended and maybe a good set of headphones too. When it comes to battery life, there is nothing great for this laptop to brag about here either. If the power management profile of the operating system is set to “balance mode”, the screen brightness is set to a medium level that will give you about 2 hours and 40 minutes of battery life. Imagine that if you’re on the road and maybe want to enjoy a Blu-ray movie on this laptop, there is a good chance you won’t be able to see the whole movie until the laptop shuts down. This is quite disappointing and we expected more from Sony. If you ever come across the possibility of getting a bigger and better battery, make sure you do so.

If you plan on using this laptop with any 3D application, you certainly won’t be satisfied with the performance. For a laptop in the office and basic computer needs, this VAIO works just fine. When you try to play some new games, you get lousy frame rates so give up the idea that you could play some very fancy game on this unit. Aside from watching Blu-ray movies and clips, there is not much to say about the video performance of this laptop. Remember that you pay over $2000 for this unit and for such a high price tag, better performance is often expected.

This laptop can prove to be uncomfortable if you use it on your lap for over an hour as your legs are most likely to begin sweating. There is no noise coming from the fan unless the laptop is really stressed out and pushed to its maximum limits. Therefore, the fan doesn’t produce any disturbing noise and some of you may not hear it at all if you are using the laptop in an environment where there already is some background noise. Aside from the great design and the Blu-ray optical drive which is always a nice touch in any laptop, I can’t find anything amazing that would determine me to recommend this laptop to other people.

The screen has uneven back lights, performance is ok but we still expect more from a $2000 laptop, the battery life is poor and the speakers are awful. This is not what you expect from a multimedia notebook, which is supposed to be all about watching movies and listening to music. If I had to grade it from 1 to a maximum 10, I would give it a 6.5, maximum 7. On the other hand, the design is nice and so is the built in quality as this laptop seems really solid.

The keyboard is very pleasant to type on once you get used to the layout of the keys. Even if the widescreen is nice for watching movies, this does not compensate for the back light problem so hopefully it’s a factory problem which is only happening with a few units.

Now, the decision is all up to you. Try reading some customer reviews and see if the laptop was really worth paying the price because I’m reading here about too many flaws for such an expensive laptop. In the end, like I always say, an important percentage of the price that you pay for the notebook actually represents the brand. It doesn’t matter if you are buying a $2000 laptop which is good or not, in the end all that matters is that you’ll own a Sony VAIO.

Very Cheap Laptops

February 4, 2010

(0) Comments

We have written a lot of articles about cheap laptops with really low prices so writing about very cheap laptops can be a challenge. As usual, we did our homework and found some extremely cheap models which we are going to present today.
<-300×250 Medium Rectangle – center->
www.cheaplaptopsusa.com is the website which sells very cheap laptops. In fast the prices are so low we were beginning to wonder if maybe there is something wrong with these models. But then we found out they came with one month warranty. The laptops found on this website are really old so the specs are very weak and in my opinion they are pretty useless if you consider the kind of applications we need to run on our computer these days. From what I saw, there are only 3 laptop models available on this website. First you have the Dell Latitude which has a 0.233 GHz processor, 6 GB of storage capacity and 64 MB of RAM memory. Another model is the Compaq Armada M700 with a 0.75 GHZ processor, 40 GB of free disk space and 192 MB of RAM. Compared to the Latitude it has a DVD optical drive while the Dell has only a CD optical drive. The Compaq runs with the Windows 98 operating system while the Dell ran with the Windows 2003 operating system. The price of the Dell is $99 while the Armada is $149. As you can see, there laptops really can’t handle all the pressure we apply to our modern laptops so let’s check out some more decent laptops on other websites.

On www.nextag.com there are some great offers for both new and refurbished laptops. For $268 you can buy the new Acer Gateway LT2021u netbook. it is powered by a 1.0 GHz Intel Pentium III processor and 1 GB of RAM. It has a hard disk capacity of 160 GB and it runs with the Windows XP Home operating system. The display is 10.1 inches and the whole unit weighs only 2.6 so this is an ideal laptop for people that need a portable unit to help them meet the basic computing needs. If you want a more decent laptop, you can get the HP Presario Cῖ-115NR refurbished for as low as $400. It runs with a 2.0 GHz AMD Turion Ͳ Dual Core processor and 3 GB of RAM. The capacity of the hard drive is 200 GB and the graphics card is an nVidia GeForce 8200M with a maximum of 1407 MB of video memory. It has a 15.4 inch display with a native resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

This models has 3 USB ports, a 5-in-1 digital media card reader, one VGA port, one Ethernet jack, one phone jack, one Kensington lock slot ad one headphone plus one microphone jack. It also comes with a 3 month warranty for the skeptical people that don’t trust refurbished laptops. Another nice feature is the dual layer DVD burner and I think the price and performance balance with this laptop is pretty acceptable.
